The Howard was built in San Francisco by Dicky Brothers at the foot of Kentucky Street. The two masted schooner is named after Howard Byxby, the son of the John Byxby, the lumber magnate from the Navarro Mill Company.

The Howard was captured by the Japanese as a blockade runner during the war between Russia and Japan. At present I do not know the Howard's location. If you have any information, e-mail me at the following address.

With a group of investors, Adams bought an interest in the Vidette and became her captain.
